10 Ways to Master Self Care

What is that noise?!? Oh, it’s just the sounds of me hyperventilating and my sobbing ugly tears that are the product of a emotional breakdown due to not prioritizing my own needs. Self care is something millions of people struggle with everyday. Between being caught up with daily priorities like care of a child or elder, school, work etc. Many people put their self care needs on the back burner until they blow up in a fit of rage or emotion like described above. Mental health is very important and in my opinion way more important than a job or money. You can always obtain career opportunities and money. You can not replace your body from stroking out after too much stress. Your loved ones need you at your best and your body will thank you for it! Sometimes things just have to wait. Press the pause button even if just for 30 minutes out of your day. Below I’m going to share some tips that everyone can try to help improve their self care:

1. Do nothing!

That’s right absolutely not a damn thing. We are conditioned to believe that being always busy and booked is the best but that’s not always true. We are humans not robots it is OK to not be busy. Don’t feel guilty about it either! I struggle with this myself pick a day and snuggle up in your blanket or watch TV. Do anything your heart desires that involves you resting. Don’t feel forced to go outside and run errands just chill. Take a nap sis you deserve it. 😴

 2. Do a spa day.

Treat yourself to a manicure or pedicure, a massage, or a facial. If you don’t like people touching on you get your hair done or try a sensory deprivation tank. If you cant afford to go out to do these things do a spa day at home. YouTube and Pinterest has lovely D.I.Y beauty recipes you can put together with simple ingredients.Spa

    3. Turn your phone off.

Not on do not disturb completely off. A lot of stress comes from the pressure of feeling you have to answer a call or text or having to know the latest on social media. Fuck those calls and that social media gossip it can wait.No phone zone

4. Get active.

Go to the gym! It might sound crazy but for me when I’m angry getting on the treadmill or lifting weights helps relieve the anger and stress i have. Play basketball or football. If able do some jumping jacks. If physically unable to exercise blow some bubbles it’s proven to relieve stress (try it I promise it works).Yoga

5.  Meditate.

Play some nature sounds or binaural beats and meditate in a quiet space with incense for 20 minutes. If you don’t like to meditate or pray go for a long walk and clear your mind. 🧘🏾‍♀️

 6. Take yourself shopping.

Even if just for household necessities or groceries at least pick up one thing specifically for yourself. It will be your well deserved treat to yourself for the day! Shop online if you want to avoid parking and large crowds. 🛍

 7. Zone out.

Get lost in a book or a video game. If you don’t feel like holding a controller or book try a audio book. 📖

8. Self pep talk

Take a few minutes out of your day and say some positive affirmations. “I am loved” “I am beautiful” “I am healthy and stress free” talk to yourself positively and sort out any thoughts that have been on repeat in your noggin.

 9. Chow time!

Treat yourself to lunch. Go to your favorite restaurant, deli, or coffee shop and enjoy the vibes. People watch..who knows you might meet a new friend. ☺️ Lunch

10. Do it all!!

Do all the things listed! You can make a whole day out of it! Pick one day out of your week where you can enjoy whatever self care routines that comes to your mind. Just don’t overdue the planning or stress yourself out about it. It’s your day let things flow. If you have small children or are a caregiver to someone that’s fine too just let them know this is your day to yourself. incorporate balance if needed and give them their own day too. 😉
